Russell Norman has been directing across multiple genres of television for more than 25 years, including some of the biggest LIVE shows ever produced. Today, he lives in Los Angeles with his wife Anita and daughter Brontë, having moved to the United States following his very successful career on some of the UK’s most popular entertainment shows such as the Miss World Pageant.
Since arriving in 2006, Russell has consistently shown a relish and enormous aptitude for directing big, live, multi-camera shows, bringing his unique, innovative style and creativity to 16 seasons of America’s Got Talent, as well as AGT: The Champions and AGT: Extreme. He has been at the helm of many productions for NBC, FOX, CBS, ABC, AMC, and HBO, such as three seasons of Little Big Shots, three seasons of Ellen’s Game of Games and Ellen’s Night of Giveaways, four seasons of Beat Shazam, American Idol and The Friends Reunion Special 2021 etc.
Russell also directed Netflix’s ‘The Final Table,’ where he won the Director’s Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Reality Programs, adding to his list of accolades which started with the Nombre D’or Jury Rembrandt Award in Entertainment for directing “Kids Say The Funniest Things” in 2001.
In 2018, Russell was invited to be a mentor on the NBC Alternative Directors Program. Further in 2021, he was asked to serve on the Nomination and Blue Ribbon Panel for the Reality Programs Category for the 74th Annual DGA Awards.
In 2024, Russell was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special for Dick Van Dyke 98 Years of Magic.
